Joseph Bastian has been awarded the Eugen-Jochum-Preis 2019 for conducting.

Bastian was awarded the prize during a concert in the Max-Joseph-Saal in Munich, where he was conducting the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks in a chamber programme of Boulez, Reich, Takemitsu, and Berio.

Created in 2012 in honour of Eugen Jochum, first Chief Conductor and Founder of the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, the Eugen-Jochum-Preis advocates young talent and is awarded to the best up-and-coming conductors of the younger generation.

Previous winners include Christoph Altstaedt (2012), Peter Dijkstra (2014), Andreas Pascal Heinzmann (2015), and Thomas Jung (2017).
